Jennifer Garner, born April 17, 1972 in Houston, Texas, was raised within Charleston West Virginia. William John Garner served as an engineer at Union Carbide. Her mother Patricia Ann taught at a local university. Her father was a chemical engineer, which is why she wanted to be like him. In order to pursue her dream of acting, she decided to move in New York and try her attempt at acting in Hollywood. The restaurant she worked in was and was a part of Broadway productions. She had a cameo role in the show "Felicity." (It it was on this show where she first met her husband, Scott Foley.) Garner made her debut in Alias which is an action-thriller. Her first big performance was in the highly praised romance 13 Going on 30. In it she played the young woman trapped within a 30+ year old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick (director) to direct the film. The two looked for new projects to do until Winick's death in the year 2011. Garner was appointed artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. The role includes promotion of national literacy, nutrition, early education, and many different aspects. Garner has been a member of the board of this non-profit organization since the year 2014. She is a proponent of early preschool education. She has been visiting families throughout Early Steps to School Success the program created for parents to learn how to support their child's development - and act as an advocate.
